Geeky Wedding Wednesday: FIREFLY

Welcome to Geeky Wedding Wednesday! Be here the first Wednesday of every month to learn how to geek out your wedding! This week, Firefly!   Invitations Try throwing in a classic Malcolm Reynolds quote on one side of your invite so your guests know what’s up right away. Also, this save-the-date by TheWoodenForge on Etsy is totally on point. Wardrobe Bride: Kaylee had one of the most iconic costumes of the series with her fluffy pink shindig dress. Don’t feel like you have to go full cupcake with your wedding dress, but there’s a way to give a nod...

Geeky Wedding Wednesday: GAME OF THRONES

Welcome to Geeky Wedding Wednesday! This week, we’re geeking out Game of Thrones style in honor of the premiere this Sunday, July 16th! Invitations Obviously, you’re going to need to invest in training some ravens for the occasion because that’s really the only acceptable way to communicate for this theme. Or you could use the ever-popular but so very clever “Wedding is Coming” invitation and save-the-date idea, like this one from the CarlayDiem shop on Etsy. Just choose your house, or create your own, and you’ll be good to go. For a little something extra, seal your invites with wax...

Geeky Wedding Wednesday: BOOKWORM

Welcome to Geeky Wedding Wednesday! Be here the first Wednesday of every month to learn how to geek out your wedding! This week, Bookworm! Invitations Traditional wedding invitations have a format that’s very recognizable. For a book-themed wedding, flip the invite on it’s spine and use the format of a novel. Then insert the pages of the invite into a mini book cover. And one of my favorite ideas, instead of a regular RSVP card, include a library card application. You can also use these adorable little things as your save-the-dates!   Wardrobe Bride: I wouldn’t necessarily suggest it...

Geeky Wedding Wednesday: HARRY POTTER

Welcome to Geeky Wedding Wednesday! Be here the first Wednesday of every month to learn how to geek out your wedding! This week, Harry Potter! Invitations Bring joy to the 11-year-old in all your guests by sending out invitations in the likeness of Hogwarts letters. Aged parchment, calligraphy and wax seals will do the trick. And instead of using that weird tissue paper thing, throw in some owl feathers so they’ll know who really delivered their invite. Maybe something like this from bellybeancards on Etsy. Wardrobe Probably the most iconic dress in the series is Hermione’s Yule Ball...

Geeky Wedding Wednesday: CLASSIC MICKEY

Welcome to Geeky Wedding Wednesday! Be here the first Wednesday of every month to learn how to geek out your wedding! This week, Classic Mickey! Invitations Subtlety is pretty key here since you’re dealing with cartoons. It’s easy to throw Mickey and friends onto some cardstock and call it a day, but you’ll likely end up with something that looks more like a child’s birthday party invite than a wedding invitation. I love the Mickey and Minnie kissing silhouettes that are featured on this invite: Wedsclusive on Etsy It’s clear to see what the theme is, but still reads...

Geeky Wedding Wednesday: DOCTOR WHO

Welcome to Geeky Wedding Wednesday! Be here the first Wednesday of every month to learn how to geek out your wedding! This week, Doctor Who! ***Special note to help your guests*** When I was planning my wedding, my future FIL (father-in-law) advised me to make a fairly detailed wedding program to help our guests understand our super nerdy wedding. He felt like some of our guests might catch things here and there but it was unlikely that they would know everything we were referencing. I took the time to put together a program (it was actually a Playbill) with...

JOHN HURT Passes Away at 77

Our Doctor, our wandmaker, our dragon passed away today at age 77. John Hurt had been battling cancer and intestinal problems, but was cleared by his doctors just two years ago. When asked how he felt about death after receiving the good news, he was quoted saying, “I can’t say I worry about mortality, but it’s impossible to get to my age and not have a little contemplation of it. We’re all just passing time, and occupy our chair very briefly.” He was always optimistic about his treatments and continued to work as often and as long as his doctors...

Fantastic Beasts Are Real and Here’s Where to Find Them!

That’s right! Scientists are helping us Potterheads find some pretty magical creatures IRL. Most recently, a new species of crab has been discovered living in deep, dark coral graveyards in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Guam. Biologists have named the crab Harryplax severus, a nod to two of J.K. Rowling’s beloved characters, Harry Potter and Severus Snape. It also happens that the initial research for this discovery was by a man named Harry Conley. The two biologists, Jose Mendoza and Peter Ng, who led the study which discovered the new species of crab inherited his research and...

Russian Hackers Are Trying to Ruin Sherlock!

Russia has been a hot topic lately in the political headlines in the U.S., but thanks to some nerdy hackers the country is infiltrating the Sherlock fandom, too. The fourth season of Sherlock will be coming to a close tomorrow night with a third episode that could also mark a series finale as well. “The Final Problem” is set to air on Sunday, 1/15 at 7/6c. However, a few days ago, the British Film Institute in the UK held a preview screening of the much-anticipated episode for over 400 fans. Almost immediately after the screening, S4E3 was leaked online....

Emma Watson or Justin Bieber? Disney’s New Belle Doll Gets Mixed Reviews

With every great Disney movie comes loads of merchandise and the upcoming live action version of Beauty and the Beast is no different. We still have a couple of months to go before the big premiere but in anticipation of the release, Disney has come out with several toys based on the characters in their new film. While the animated character version of similar toys have been around for years, the newer incarnations of say, Funko Pop dolls, have been heavily influenced by the most updated interpretation. So, something like this: There are obvious differences, of course, but the essence of...
