Syfy Will Make TV Adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s NIGHTFLYERS

Game of Thrones season 7 is only about a month away. But, in the meantime, George R.R. Martin fans can celebrate another of his creations coming to TV. Syfy has ordered a pilot for Martin’s supernatural space thriller, Nightflyers.   According to Deadline, the pilot was written by Jeff Buhler (Jacob’s Ladder) and writers are being hired in preparation for a possible series pickup.  Nightflyers takes place on ‘the eve of Earth’s destruction’.  I haven’t personally read the book or seen the 1987 movie adaptation starring Catherine Mary Stewart (The Last Starfighter, Weekend at Bernie’s) but you can bet I’m...

STAR TREK: DISCOVERY Is Thinking Outside of ‘Roddenberry’s Box’

There’s long been a rule in the Star Trek universe, brought into being by Gene Roddenberry himself, that has frustrated many Star Trek writers.  Known as ‘Roddenberry’s Box’ it was a rule carried out in his honor throughout much of each series (with exceptions) and it’s being officially put to bed by Star Trek: Discovery.   In an attempt to show us an ideal and advanced society, Gene Roddenberry put emphasis on writers doing whatever they could to avoid putting Starfleet crew members ‘in significant conflict with one another (unless a crew member is, say, possessed by an alien force), or...

Netflix’s THE INCREDIBLE JESSICA JAMES Teaser is Here and She Looks Fun

Netflix is launching another original show, The Incredible Jessica James, and it looks pretty delightful.  The show is written and directed by Jim Strouse who wrote and directed People Places Things, which I personally loved.  Jessica Williams stars.  She is best known for a very successful four year stint on The Daily Show as a correspondent, her role in Girls and assorted films.  Now she takes the lead, and she’s taking it in stride. The teaser focuses on Williams’ character in her daily life.  She’s weird and outspoken and I like weird and outspoken.  She quickly shuts down a Tinder date...

‘The Pack Survives’ in the New GAME OF THRONES Trailer

The Game of Thrones Season 7 second trailer is here, and it’s intense!  HBO put the new trailer on Twitter Wednesday morning with the tag ‘It’s the first day of summer, but #winterishere July 16’.   And, winter it is.  This trailer is COLD.  And, the storytelling in this one is pretty spectacular from my perspective.  It starts with Sansa, alone, in the snow.  Then, we hear the voice of Littlefinger, isn’t it?  He’s telling her to fight every battle, always in her mind.  She has to be mentally strong, and the incredible arc of that character has brought...

NASA Deploys Roll Out Solar Array Experiment (ROSA): Could Have Implications for Deep Space Travel

NASA Image and Video Library NASA made big news this week with it’s data release from the Kepler Space Telescope.  However, something seemingly small happened over the weekend that could have big implications down the road.   Over the June 17-18, 2017 weekend, NASA engineers on Earth “remotely operated the International Space Station’s robotic Canadarm2 to extract the Roll Out Solar Array (ROSA) experiment from the SpaceX Dragon resupply ship.”  This according to NASA.gov.  Now, this may seem like old news.  Solar power in space isn’t a new thing.  Well, what’s new about it isn’t it’s function, but it’s capability.  The solar...

NASA’s MAVEN Celebrates 1,000 Days in Orbit

NASA‘s MAVEN (Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution Mission) has been exploring the upper atmosphere of Mars since September 2104.  That means it’s now been in orbit around Mars for 1,000 Earth days.  MAVEN is still going strong, and that’s cause for celebration.  NASA marked the occasion with a list of MAVEN’s top 10 accomplishments.  Among MAVEN’s most important discoveries is that “the Mars atmosphere has been stripped away by the sun and the solar wind over time, changing the climate from a warmer and wetter environment early in history to the cold, dry climate that we see today.” – nasa.gov.  Apparently...

BIG TIME Game of Thrones SPOILERS exist in this post!!   * * * * * Game of Thrones is notorious for killing off it’s characters.  Each of us, as fans have had a moment where we needed to walk out of the room, scream at the television or actually cry.  I have.  I have.  But there’s a time for rage and there’s a time for celebration.  And, as we approach the impending end to the series that we love, it’s good to look back and celebrate what we’ve gone through.  Youtube user HansoArt has done just that.  We...

Feel like taking a trip to, I don’t know, MARS? Well, Elon Musk and SpaceX are working on it in earnest. In fact, Musk isn’t just thinking travel to Mars, he’s thinking colonize Mars. And, here’s the kicker. He’s written his plan down for anyone to read; available for free. It’s pretty fascinating stuff.   Musk’s vision ‘centers on a reusable rocket-and-spaceship combo that he’s dubbed the Interplanetary Transport System (ITS). Both the booster and the spaceship will be powered by SpaceX’s Raptor engine, still in development, which Musk said will be about three times stronger than the Merlin engines that power the company’s...
