We are all Wonder Women!

~Claudia Dolph While on the internets this morning I stumbled across this wonderful print on Etsy. WE ARE ALL WONDER WOMEN was created by twins, Catherine and Sarah Saturn, animators living and working in Chicago. Of course this print caught my eye because I think it’s such a wonderful message, in that we all have something to offer. We are all capable and powerful in our own way we just have to figure out what our gift is. It doesn’t look like one thing and there isn’t one path. We discover our passions, we look to our mentors, we...

Positive Intentions and Mars

~Claudia Dolph My intentions to be positive and why NASA’s Kate Greene thinks that the first mission to Mars should be manned by an all women team. “You must be the change you wish to see in the world” I didn’t make up that quote. Obviously, I’m not Ghandi although we do get confused often. Must be the olive skin tone, but I’ve been deep in thought lately and I feel, deeply into my bones, a heavy weight in this culture of geekdom that I love so much. Instead of arguing about Catwoman vs Jean Grey, which is something we along with Legion Of Leia, will be doing at Comikaze next weekend(shameless plug, please join us!) we, as women, are having to defend each other. The conversation is still negative and I want to turn that around. I don’t know how easy a task that is because with the anonymity of the internet and the wild west age of social media people are cruel and scary. There is no reference for consequences because you aren’t seeing someone face to face. If I say something shitty to my boyfriend I feel bad because I’ve instantly seen that I’ve hurt him. If someone threatened you in person, face to face, it would result in either arrest or restraining order. Without human interaction there is no humility. You are unable to empathize...

Don’t get your panties in a bunch…

~Claudia Dolph I am exhausted that the subject of women’s equality and more specifically in the geek/pop culture world is still a constant fight. Why is it so scary? Why do people hate to hear the word “Feminism” Here’s the definition; the advocacy of women’s rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men. I won’t go on too much because I’m sure it will be addressed again, sooner than later. But I will say if someone I don’t know finds out that my interest are of the geek nature the interrogation begins. Questions about comics,...

This Year’s Soundtracks That Are A Must Have!

~Claudia Dolph I know this year isn’t quite over just yet but I found myself, over the weekend, thinking about the soundtracks that I really loved and that there hadn’t been anything that stood out to me in a while. When I was a kid, my sisters and brothers and I would listen to an album that was a compilation of scores from John Williams. So it was Indiana Jones, Superman, Star Wars, Jaws, Close Encounters and more and we loved it, we listened to it daily. We danced, we made up plays. it was music that was inspiring. When I...

My summer with Oculus…

~Claudia Dolph When I was a teenager I used to watch this show called “VR.5”. It’s about a girl who’s actions in the virtual world effects the real world. That doesn’t really matter, but if you can find it you should watch it!  The important thing is that my own personal VR.5 happened this summer. I got to spend my summer with Oculus. In my very own house. I will give credit where credit is due. It was actually my sister’s boyfriend who was in possession of the Oculus. He stayed with us while interning with a gaming company...

Heart Wide Open

~Claudia Dolph I was going to write about something else entirely but the news of Robin Williams suicide has left me, all of us, reeling. I guess it’s hard to process that someone who brought so much joy to our lives could be so sad, that sixty-three years was enough. I know that darkness all too well. I’ve suffered from depression since I was ten years old, that’s the first time I felt a switch. I felt like a cloud obstructed my view. Life wasn’t fun, I was sad. For no reason. Well there were many reasons but at that...

Post Comic Con Musings

~Claudia Dolph San Diego Comic-Con 2014 ended Sunday and it was a whirlwind to say the least. One of my favorite years, but exhausting in every capacity. So what am I doing today to recover? Watching all the panels I missed, online. I made it to a whopping two panels while I was there, The WWE/Lionsgate panels for “See No Evil 2” and the last “Sons Of Anarchy” panels in Hall H. Yes, I actually made it into the notoriously impossible Hall H and it was so worth it! Great to see a cast so loving and to see...
