Movie Review – ALIEN: COVENANT

MEET THE NEW XENOMORPH. SAME AS THE OLD XENOMORPH. Alien: Covenant by Paul Preston The Movie Guys Alien: Covenant has so many science fiction 101 mistakes that it puts a damper on all the good things that come out of it. But there’s enough here I found interesting, coupled with a killer ending, to where I can more or less recommend it. So there you go, ringing endorsement. The plot involves a spaceship, the Covenant, en route to a distant planet to terraform it and colonize it with humans. There are thousands of colonists on board as well as embryos and...

Bite-Sized Movie Reviews – ALIEN: COVENANT

The old adage remains true. In space, no one can hear you scream. Except for the people around you. They hear it, and it constantly inspires them to do the wrong thing which normally involves running needlessly into danger. As is the case with Alien Covenant which picks up ten years after the events of Prometheus and twenty years previous to Ripley and the crew of the Nostromo receiving that fateful distress signal.  Alien: Covenant didn’t exactly capture the tense spine tingling feelings from Scott’s original outing, nor did it feel as awkwardly scary (or confusing) as Prometheus. To...

Short Film THE CROSSING Connects PROMETHEUS to ALIEN: COVENANT

Alien: Covenant will soon be upon us, and FOX is doing some pretty brilliant marketing with a short prologue film.  Released Wednesday, The Crossing bridges the stories of Prometheus and Alien: Covenant by telling us how David (Michael Fassbender) survived. The Crossing picks up “10 years after the destruction of the Prometheus” according to Variety.  And, it shows us how David was repaired and nurtured by Dr. Elizabeth Shaw.  Can’t we all agree that fully repairing David is at best, hubris… and at worst, a very bad idea?  His full recovery can’t be good for the people on the...

Watch ALIEN: COVENANT Run, Hide, Pray Trailers and Choose Wisely

20th Century Fox has released three new teaser trailers for their upcoming sci-fi thriller prequel, Alien: Covenant and they seems to give us few options. The trailers are entitled, Run, Hide and Pray.  Each gives the appropriate advice for the period of time represented.  In the Run trailer, we see the characters as they enter the world of the alien.  They know not what they do.  It’s their last chance to escape, and by the end of the trailer that chance is gone. In the Hide trailer, we’re among the enemy, in the depths of hell.  Awareness is clearly mounting,...

The New ALIEN: COVENANT Poster is Beautiful and Horrible

Alien: Covenant has a new poster that is stunning and horrifying and oh, so exciting.  The image was released by 20th Century Fox via Twitter on Thursday. The tagline for Alien: Covenant has long been ‘the path to paradise begins in hell’.  They’ve used that theme effectively in the teasers, trailer and promo.  The premise of the movie is that the human race is sending it’s first colonists to another planet (it’s a prequel to the Alien films we know and love).  This planet is a perfect fit, so what could possibly go wrong?  It’s paradise.  No, it’s not....

ALIEN: COVENANT Meet Walter

When it was announced that Michael Fassbender would be joining the cast of Alien: Covenant, we all assumed he would be returning as the same character from Prometheus, the Android, David. But that is not the case….Kind of. He is credited as David but also, as Walter. RELATED: The New ALIEN: COVENANT Trailer and Poster Will Strike Fear In Your Heart 20th Century Fox released a short today introducing the new Walter android, and you too, can order one here at MeetWalter.com. New ALIEN: COVENANT Trailer and Poster Will Strike Fear in Your Heart

The Alien franchise is back with the return of director Ridley Scott and new horrors in Alien: Covenant. 20th Century Fox released a new trailer and poster for the film, and the outlook is grim.  The poster makes reference to the first Alien poster with the image of  a single alien egg and the famous tagline ‘In space, no one can hear you scream’.  This poster, however, just says ‘hide’ and the egg has not been hatched.   It’s chilling.  The implication, it seems, is that there is no fighting this thing, and it’s coming. The First Full Length Trailer for ALIEN: COVENANT Is Here

Be aware, the below trailer is red band, meaning it is not suitable for all audiences and probably not suitable for work.  All of the promotional material up to this point has channeled less of the prequel Prometheus, and more of the movie that started it all, Alien.  The first full length trailer is no exception. RELATED: The ALIEN: COVENANT Teaser Calls Back to the Original Terror Set to a remix of a Nat King Cole song, Nature Boy, the haunting music is a direct counterpoint to the bleak landscape and horror that starts to play out on the screen.  Sure,...

The ALIEN: COVENANT Teaser Calls Back to the Original Terror

Alien: Covenant released a quick, very quick, teaser trailer through their official Twitter account today.  There isn’t much to go on, it is only 15 seconds, more of a gif and less of a trailer.  In it we see an egg slowly opening.  The image is dark, grainy, with the egg never opening completely.  Instead the teaser cuts just as we get to the payoff. RELATED: New ALIEN: COVENANT Images Give Us Bloody Flashback to the OG Alien Film This, along with the images released earlier in the week, steer away from the aesthetic of the prequel, Prometeus, and conjur...
